In this excerptfromQuḍāt Qurṭuba, Khushanī reports on gossip that circulated about the wife of thejudge Muḥammad b. Ziyād. In her chapter in Justice and Leadership in Early Islamic Courts, MaribelFierro refers to this passage to show that judges could sometimes become objects of ridicule not because of their own behaviour but because of that of their family members and relatives.
